Vera Schechtel

Vera Schechtel (Colonna) age 83, of Gilberts, Illinois passed away at home on July 22, 2023 with her loving family at her side. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 30, 1940 the loving daughter of Peter and Evelyn (Gambelli) Colonna.

Vera enjoyed gardening, family get togethers, decorating her home inside and out and cooking and baking for others. Most importantly, Vera enjoyed life and helping others selflessly. 

Vera is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years of marriage, George J. Schechtel; her loving sons, Kevin (Barbara) Schechtel and Jim (Tasia) Schechtel; her cherished grandchildren, Anthony (Kayla) Schechtel and Alyssa Schechtel; her proud great-granddaughter Scarlett.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Henry (the late Lorraine) Colonna.

A visitation for Vera will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM along with a 7:00 PM evening prayer service all at Willow Funeral Home 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 with prayers to begin at 9:00 AM from the funeral home chapel and proceed to St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM.

Entombment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, Illinois.
