Valoyce (Val) Williams, nee DeGroote age 95, was born on October 31, 1929 to Forrest and Jenny DeGroote in Rutland, IA. She died peacefully at Encore Memory Care in Crystal Lake, IL, in the early morning hours of December 17, 2024 along with her daughter, Nancy being present with her.
Val was the loving wife of Rev. David E. Williams for 57 years, prior to David’s death in 2004.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara J. Payne, Nancy A. (Dennis) Kneip, Susan G. West, and Monica “Mickey” Williams; her 10 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She had a dear friend and companion, Dean Wilkinson in her later years, who preceded her in death.
Val earned a degree from Blackhawk College as a Corporate Tax Accountant and worked until her retirement at a tax firm in Moline, IL in that capacity.
Val was a proud member of the PEO sisterhood. She was a talented seamstress, making garments for her daughters (and their dolls), and costumes for a church musical. She enjoyed playing her piano, fishing, and finding waterfalls. She loved spending time at the family's summer cottage in Tomahawk, WI.
She was active in many churches throughout David’s ministry and following his retirement. She lived her life with a strong faith, a fun sense of humor, and a positive attitude. David sometimes called her Pollyanna. She sang in the choirs, served on boards and committees, and participated in Bible studies. She was a trained Befriender, doing personal visitations, and was loved by all who knew her.
Her final years were spent at Encore Memory Care. Her family is very appreciative of the care and kindness she received there, and the responses to her needs as they changed.
