Shirley Basler Obituary

Shirley Pegenau Basler was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 1, 1935, the daughter of the late Catherine and Carl T. Pegenau. Shirley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Apostolic Christian Highland Oaks in Elgin, Illinois.

Shirley was raised in Chicago and graduated from Lake View High School. She went back to School in 1999 and got her BS degree in music at Elmhurst College. Her love of music was her passion.

On November 24, 1955, Shirley married the love of her life the late Walter L. Basler at Bethany United Church of Christ, Chicago, Illinois. They were married for 35 years.

Shirley lived in Cary, Illinois for over 40 years. She loved her house and also spent many happy days at her cottage located on the Fox River, at the Illinois Turner Camp, in Algonquin, Illinois.

She is survived by her half-sister, Margaret Ann Grant of Australia; half-brother, B.J. Felthause of California; her cousins, Sandy Beglinger and family of New York, Ron Glasgow and family of New York, Randy Vaas and family of New York and Shari Arnold and family of California; her aunts, Ruth Mengsol and family of Wisconsin, Beverly Rusinak and family of Chicago, IL. and Marilyn Arnold and family of California; her special friends, Sue Kreibich, Tracy Padula, The Brzostowski Family, Peg Schwab, "Butch" Hansen including many other friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Willow Funeral Home 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., Algonquin (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St., Algonquin, Illinois with Pastor Brian E. Cope officiating, where Shirley was a member for 37 years. She belonged to the choir and served on many different boards.

Shirley will be remembered as a caring and giving daughter, wife, friend and relative to many.

Burial will be private at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St., Algonquin, Il 60102.
