Sharon Rose Prykop-Keenon, age 75, of Algonquin, Illinois, passed away on October 29, 2025. She was born in Joliet, Illinois on October 6,1950, the daughter of George and Josephine (Anzalone) Keenon.
Sharon Rose lived a life centered on faith, family, and love. From a young age, Sharon cherished her faith, her heritage, and the warmth of family. Growing up, she adored her parents and treasured every moment spent playing and laughing with her brother and sister. Music was always close to her heart, especially the sounds of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Cryin’ Shames, and John Denver.
After graduating from Lewis University in Joliet, Sharon followed her calling to become a teacher. She later married Richard Prykop (now divorced), and together they built a beautiful family. Upon moving to Algonquin, Sharon began a successful career, of over 30 years, as the Director of Religious Education at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church. While there, she shared her deep faith and compassion with thousands of children and families. This vocation not only fulfilled her spiritually, but also allowed her the flexibility to raise her three children with the same care and devotion she brought to her ministry.
Sharon cherished summers spent with her family on Mackinac Island, creating treasured memories that would last a lifetime. In retirement, she rediscovered her love for 1960s rock and roll, becoming an enthusiastic supporter of Chicagoland bands The Cryin’ Shames and American English, who welcomed her into their musical family with open arms.
Sharon got the pleasure to see each one of her children get married and welcomed their spouses into the family. She loved each one like they were her own.
As years passed, Sharon’s joy came from being a grandmother. Sharon was overjoyed to welcome five grandchildren into her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
As time went on, and Sharon’s world grew quieter, she found comfort in her memories, her faith, and the stories that had shaped her remarkable journey.
Sharon’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on through her children, grandchildren, and all those who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her children, Jonathan (RJ) Prykop-Dennis, Jillian (Christopher) Lucero, and Christopher (Christine) Prykop; her grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jaxsyn, Everleigh, Savannah and Remingtyn; her brother, George (Sharon) Keenon, and her sister, Mary (Tim) Bergeson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
