Rosemary Barone Obituary

Rosemary Barone, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Alden Memory Care in Huntley, Illinois, at the age of 97.

Born on December 9, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, Rosemary was the daughter of Austrian immigrants John and Rosina. Alongside her brother John and cherished Aunt Marie, Rosemary grew up in a home deeply rooted in tradition, culture, and love. She spent her early years speaking German, a testament to her family's heritage, and treasured summers in South Haven, Michigan—a place and time she remembered fondly throughout her life.

A 1946 graduate of Waller High School, Rosemary went on to build a long and respected career at Blue Cross Blue Shield. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Pasquale Barone. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family ties—first in a shared three-flat on Dayton Street and later in their family home on Natchez Street in Chicago, where they raised their two children, Carl and Barbara.

Rosemary’s heart belonged to her family. She was a devoted mother to Carl (Patricia) and the late Barbara, a proud grandmother to Nicholas (Wendy), Kevin (Domenica), Eric (Hannah), and Nikki Mariani, and a joyful great-grandmother to Milo. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Pasquale, daughter Barbara, grandson Allen Able and her brother John (the late Freida) Schmidt with whom she is now reunited.

Rosemary was known for her kind soul, sharp wit, and unshakable faith. She was an active member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in South Elgin, participating in both spiritual and community activities. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—gardening, puzzles, board games, and especially in the company of her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

A woman of grace and quiet strength, Rosemary lived by the words she often shared: "Every generation gets a little bit better." Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in her family—kindness, resilience, and faith.

In her absence, her spirit lives on – a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries. As we say goodbye, we remember her parting words: "Schlaf gut"—sleep well. May she rest now in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she gave so generously in life.
