Robert A. “Bob” Gerber age 71, of Algonquin, formerly of Hanover Park passed away on April 21, 2023. He was born in Elmhurst. Illinois on October 6, 1951 the son of Allen and Angeline (Prill) Gerber.
He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War era. Later in his life he was a member and served 18 years for the Fox Valley Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol in West Chicago, Illinois, with 4 years as the Squadron Air Commander. During his time at CAP he helped set a Guinness World Record.
Robert worked for Varian for 35 years as technician for cancer therapy machines and then manager of the division where he was highly respected in his field. Robert had a passion for model trains, volunteering at the Meadowdale Race Track, flying planes, old war movies and being with his family.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Rebecca (Lemrise) Gerber; his loving children, Allen (fiancée Jennifer Griffard) Gerber and Jennifer (Miguel) Merida; his cherished grandchildren, Julian, Jason, Marissa, Nathan, Ethan, Paige, Blake, Jordan and Teo; his brother, David (Sue) Gerber; also survived by father-in-law, Paul Lemrise, many brother and sister in-laws, loved nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Dolores Lemrise and his loving granddaughters, Madison Noel Gerber and Kaidence Celina Merida.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, along with a Color Guard Service to begin at 7:00 PM all at Willow Funeral Home 1415 W. Algonquin Rd. (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will follow along with Military Honors under the auspices of the U.S. Navy at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, Illinois.
