Robert DeSantis Obituary

Robert J. DeSantis age 87, of Algonquin and formerly of Des Plaines, Illinois passed away at home on February 3, 2023. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 24, 1935 to John and Margaret (Petrozzini) DeSantis.

He was retired as a tool & die maker and former plant manager, and a longtime faithful parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntley and former parishioner of St. John Brebeuf Catholic Church in Niles.

Robert is survived by his loving children, Dean (Pamela) DeSantis, David (Ramona) DeSantis, Donald DeSantis and Diane (John) Konieczka; his cherished grandchildren, Kirstyn (Chris) Weber, Kyle (Allison) DeSantis, US Army (CAPT.) Dean R. DeSantis, Jenna DeSantis, Ashley DeSantis, Nicholas DeSantis, Jacob (Alexandria) Vincent and David Vincent; his cherished great-grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas, Haven, Amelia, Charlotte and Jordan; his sister-in law, Maria DeSantis.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in by his beloved wife, Lenora T. DeSantis, his loving daughter, Doreen T. DeSantis-Vincent; his cherished granddaughter, Rachel Vincent, and a dear brother, Michael DeSantis.

Bob lived a long and full life. In the early years he enjoyed coaching youth baseball, basketball and football. Often times, Lenora would meet him at the kids’ sporting events with a brown bag dinner as he did not have time to stop home before the games. He really enjoyed being the head coach of the Colts in Niles little league baseball. During his years as a coach a lot of long-time friendships were made and are still in place today.

Later in life Bob and Lenora enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren as well as vacationing at Diane and John’s Lake house where he enjoyed fishing off the pier or going out on the pontoon boat to look for the ones “that got away”.

Bob and Lenora enjoyed vacationing and went to and loved places like New Zealand, Italy and other foreign and US based national parks and historical locations.

Toward the end, he loved to tell stories. Uncle Eddie, Uncle Donnie, Uncle Mike, the Cubs, and many other friends and family were part of the history of his life. Who knew everything cost a nickel back then? He was loved and will be missed.

Family & friends will gather on Thursday, February 9, 2023 for a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. John Brebeuf Church, 8305 N. Harlem Ave., Niles, along with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
