Peter & Elvira Almen

Peter M Almén, 64, and Elvira “Ella” Almén, 56, both of Algonquin, IL passed away on December 1st, 2021. Peter was born on January 2, 1957 in Chicago, IL, raised in Rock Island, IL and graduated from Augustana College in 1979. Ella was born on July 5th, 1965 in St. Petersburg, Russia and held a degree in Library Science. Peter and Ella were married on May 18th, 2013, in Wilmette, IL by Peter’s father.

Peter is survived by his mother Ardis Almén, children; Courtney (Aria) Almén (Carpentersville, IL), Kyra Almén (Seattle, WA), and Alayna (Joshua) Almén (Rockford, IL); his granddaughters Lyra Almén and Adelicia Kraynik, sisters Ruth Almén and Mary Mineo; as well as their beloved pets, Karl (dog) and Bella (cat), who are now in the loving care of family.

Peter was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Louis T. Almén, PhD.

Avid travelers, Peter and Ella loved photographing nature and life throughout the country. Back home in Algonquin, Ella enjoyed several crafts, particularly painting, and was beloved around the neighborhood for her kindness. Peter, among his many other things, was a long time enthusiast of tabletop games, with close knit friends which spanned many decades no matter their distance. His humor knew no bounds. They loved one another and spent many happy years together. May their memory always bring joy.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Family and friends can gather at the church after the service to greet the family. Masks are required, and out of an abundance of caution, especially for his Mother, vaccinations are encouraged.

A Celebration of Life gathering for both Peter and Ella will also be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM along with a time of sharing to begin at 4:00 PM that afternoon all at Willow Funeral Home, 1415 W Algonquin Rd, (one half mile east of Randall Rd), Algonquin, IL 60102. At this time, we request that all in attendance wear masks.
