Nancy D. Bates

Nancy D. Bates (Mendel) age 86, of Poplar Grove, Illinois formerly from Lake in the Hills, IL. passed away at home on December 23, 2024. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 18, 1938 the daughter of David and Betty (Gleason) Mendel.

Nancy enjoyed gardening, crocheting many different things, especially her famous baby blankets. Nancy was very active in her church for many years. She was a Sunday school teacher, gym teacher at the church school. She also worked with the youth group. Nancy was a poetry writer who had spoken at many events reciting her poetry.

Nancy is survived by her children, Pamela (Gary) Rockey, Ken (Elisa) Oates, Dennis (Caroline) Oates, Rodney (Elizabeth) Oates, Timothy Oates and Bethany (Charles) Vacala; her grandchildren, Benjamin (Sarah) Rockey, Mitchell (Laura) Rockey, Vicki (Jake) Griffin, Aaron Oates, Seth Oates, Brandan Oates, Kyler Oates, Nick (Ann) Oates, Cody Oates, Clayton (Hannah) Oates, Dallas (Per) Wolfisberg, Dillon Oates and Hunter Schau; her great grandchildren, Benjamin, James, Joy, Abbie Grace, Hannah, Averie, Jaxon, Noah, Teagan, Charles, Levi, Marion, Jack, William, Theodore, Warren, Sophia, Elijah and Taya.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Oates, her grandson, Adam Oates and her 8 siblings.

Visitation and funeral will be on Monday, December 30, 2024 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of a 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service at Willow Funeral Home 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.

A private family interment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, Illinois.
