Mikel James Mikolay, age 43, of Marengo, IL and formerly of Elk Grove Village passed away Friday, March 26, 2021 in Huntley, IL. He was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois on July 7, 1977, the loving son of James and Linda (Willney) Mikolay.
Mikel is survived by his loving mother, Linda Mikolay; his siblings, Kimberly (David) Brey, Thomas (Bailey Eichler) Mikolay, Kristin Krupka and Kathleen (Hank) Gensler; his nieces and nephews, Ashley, Austin, Addison, Hayden, Layton and Ella; his Step-mother Virginia Mikolay, his fiancée, Madeline Rosario; his step-children, Aaron and Bianka, his grandchildren, Daiana, Xavier and Adonis; also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and so many dear friends.
Mikel was preceded in death by his father, James W Mikolay.
Mikel was known as being larger than life, and he dedicated his life to so many passions including the outdoors, gardening, cooking, painting, designing custom homes, and just making everyone around him laugh. He was one of a kind that could light up any room. He was looked up to by so many people throughout his life. We remember his pole-vaulting days at James B. Conant High School and he was blessed to go on to compete in track and study at University of Illinois. We remember his passion to study architecture with getting his first drafting table as a child. Let us also not forget his passion for a good debate! He did have a heart of gold and was so giving and compassionate. Even with his passing, Mikel managed to give the ultimate Gift of Hope by donating his organs, so that other people can live on, while he enters into the Kingdom of Heaven and is finally at peace. He truly loved life and we hold onto all the wonderful memories of Mikel. While we are all so saddened by Mikel’s passing, he would want us to remember his silliness and laughter and focus on the good times.
