Mary Schertzer (Rehner) of Algonquin, IL passed away on September 23, 2025. Mary was a loving, kind-hearted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was born in 1934 in Birk, Romania and lived in Germany before becoming a naturalized US citizen. Mary was married 63 years to her husband John Schertzer and survived by their children, Norbert, Gertrude, and Linda their grandchildren, Tamara, Lauren, Nicole, Cody, Taylor, Payton and great grandchildren, Francis, Charles, Clara, Vincent, Owen, Rose, Arielle, Kinley, Keagan and Jace and younger brother, John Rehner. Mary had a strong devotion to family and was very proud of her heritage. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren growing up and being an active part of their lives going to sporting events, plays and concerts. She was very supportive and understanding - always there to listen, share stories and lend a hand. She loved baking, music, dancing, entertaining, dogs, travel, desserts and her jewelry. Mary and John often went by the river to feed the ducks, watch the boats and enjoy the outdoors. She had a big heart and enjoyed a good laugh, always putting your needs ahead of her own. When you left her house you were filled with plenty of good food. Her strudel, kipferl “moon cookies” and german potato salad would add a special touch to the holidays. She touched many lives along the way and sacrificed a lot, so her children could be happy and have the opportunities they never had. She will be greatly missed. We love you mom. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3rd, 2025 at the Willow Funeral Home, 1415 Algonquin Rd, IL 60102 from 4-7:00 PM. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:30 in the chapel at Windridge Cary, IL 60013.
