Leah D. Cummins, age 97, formerly of Elk Grove Village, passed from this life peacefully on December 22, 2020. Loving mother of Georgine Banks and Bob (Laura) Cummins; devoted grandmother of Ryan (Erin) Banks, Megan (Kyle) Rezabek, Tagen Tuck and Craig Cummins; adoring great grandmother of McKenna and Delaney Banks. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, all of whom she cherished.
Born in Flushing New York, Leah lived a remarkable life where she balanced career, community service and her passions in a very unique way for a woman of her time. Her career included such roles as: language translator, executive administrative assistant for American Hospital Supplies, School District 59 educator, corp. communications leader for Gould, freelance columnist for the Daily Herald, entrepreneurial photo typesetter, telemarketer for Arthur Machinery and childcare provider (which was her favorite role). The titles she loved the most were “Mom, Grandee and DeeDee.”
Her service to her community included: School Board member, District 214, Elk Grove Village Planning Commission and Mrs. Claus on the Santa Hotline for kids. She was always a champion for anyone in need, standing up for the underdog and what she believed to be the greater good.
Besides her family and friends, Leah’s passions included: cats, cooking, vegetable gardening, music, a good martini, the New York Times crossword puzzle and politics (her sport of choice).
