Kristen “Krissy” Renee Koehnke (Bergstrom) age 41, of Island Lake, Illinois passed away suddenly on March 14, 2025. She was born in Elgin, Illinois on September 15, 1983 the daughter of Scott D. and Bonita J. (Bowers) Bergstrom.
She was a radiant soul—kind, goofy, and full of light. She had an energy that could transform a room, a smile that could lift any spirit, and a heart that knew no bounds.
Spirituality was at the core of who she was, and she carried an aura of warmth and love wherever she went. She was always dolled up, not just in appearance, but in spirit—exuding grace, kindness, and a magnetic energy that made everyone feel safe and seen. She had a way of making life feel lighter, turning even the hardest days into moments of laughter and love.
Above all, she was a mother—our mother. She gave everything for her children, fought tirelessly for us, and made sure we always knew we were her world. She was our protector, our teacher, and the foundation of who we are today. She taught us love, kindness, unity, and the strength that comes with compassion. There is no doubt that in every lifetime, she was meant to be in our lives.
She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back, her last $20, or anything she had if you needed it more. Her generosity was endless, her love unconditional. And no matter what, she always found a way to bring joy—whether it was dancing around the house, singing at the top of her lungs, or making sure that no one ever left her presence without a smile.
Her kindness, her laughter, her unwavering love will echo in our hearts forever. Though we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she poured into all of us. She was, and always will be, the most kind and radiant soul we’ve ever known.
She is survived by her children, Emily Koehnke, Scott “Scotty” Koehnke and Joshua Kelley; her sister, Heather (Anthony) LaCoco, niece Sarah and nephew Dominic LaCoco, nieces Kailyn and Lainey Koehnke and nephew Christopher Koehnke. Debbie Britton, her father Scott's significant other. Her aunts and uncles, Cheryle Kramer, Suezane (Ron) Pilipuf, Randy (Patti) Bergstrom, Kim (Tom) Johnstone, Donna (Pete) Liakopoulos and Bill (Patty) Bowers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elmer “Bud” and Dorris Bowers and Harvey and Marie Bergstrom; her uncle, Karl Kramer.
A "Celebration of Life" gathering for Krissy will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Galati's Hideaway, 800 Feinberg Ct., Cary, Illinois 60013. An open house will be from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
