Joseph Ernest Hogel Obituary

Joseph Ernest Hogel age 90, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025.

On June 2, 1957, Joe married the love of his life, Marlene, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure.

Joe worked for many years at Honeywell and Fyrnetics, where he formed lifelong friendships. While working full-time, he also put himself through college in the evenings, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering with sponsorship from Honeywell. Through his dedication, creativity, and hard work, Joe was awarded several patents, a true reflection of his ingenuity and determination.

He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, a cherished grandpa, and a loyal friend. Joe loved spending time “up north” on family vacations and looked forward each year to winter trips to Puerto Vallarta with Marlene. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodcarving, woodworking, gardening, solving puzzles, and reading. He also had a passion for collecting and restoring old pocket watches, bringing them back to life with the same patience and precision he showed in everything he did. One of his greatest joys was fossil hunting with his boys, creating lasting memories filled with discovery
and laughter.

Joe treasured many friendships throughout his life, especially his lifelong friend Dale Fiene. The two shared countless memories over the years, and toward the end of Joe’s life, Dale’s kindness and support meant more than words can express.

Joe is survived by his loving family: his sons, Steve (Kim) Hogel and Scott Hogel; daughters-in-law, Tracy Hogel and Judy Hogel; and his cherished grandchildren, Derek (Lauren) Hogel, Tyler (Faelan) Hogel, Madison, Julia, Nick Hogel, and Sam Hogel. He is also survived by his brother-in-law. Dan, his nephews, Danny (Robin) and Tommy (Sherry), and niece Laura (Steve).

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene, and his sons, James and Joe Hogel.

Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
