Jim Steigert Obituary

Jim Steigert, age 76, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 7, 1945, to parents Edward and Marie (Betchek) Steigert,

He was a proud U.S Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War era. Also an aficionado of literature, Jim owned hundreds of books, his favorite series being Lee Child’s Jack Reacher. Jim loved to travel, but more so loved the village he called home, Algonquin, where he was a Village Trustee for twenty-two years.  He prided himself on the love he had for the growing village and all of its occupants. Most important to Jim was his family, specifically, his daughter, Judy, who was by his side through all of the highs and lows of his final year.

Jim will always be remembered as the most knowledgeable, supportive, and detail-oriented man who could put a smile on anyone’s face with his quick wit. If he wasn’t able to cheer you up with his personality, he’d make you one of his famous cheeseburgers or a serving of potato salad, which would do the job.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy (Steve) Slominski and Carrie (Vinny) Thomson; his step-daughters, Carolyn (Adam) Lunz and Angie (Rene) Sprunger; his grandchildren, Josh Maurice, Alaina (Matt) Kelly, Victoria Maurice, Valarie Thomson, Tyler Thomson, Devyn Thomson, Rebekah Thomson and Jacob Thomson, Logan ( Sydney ) Smolla and Kai Sprunger; his brother, Norm Steigert and sister Shirley (Cy) Lightfoot.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Carina Lauren Maurice and his brothers, Ron Steigert and Bob Steigert.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM along with a time of sharing to begin at 2:00 PM that evening all at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., Algonquin.
