James B. Mulvihill age 92, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away in Rockford, Illinois on September 30, 2024. He was born in Ballyconry, Lisellton Co. Kerry, Ireland on March 30, 1932 the son of Sinan and Cathleen (Breen) Mulvihill. He immigrated here and met and married Billie Jean Mulvihill (Prater). They were married for almost 60 years.
Some of the wonderful things James enjoyed doing are fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, carpentry, and spending time with family and friends. Every single one of these hobbies he introduced and shared with us. His family will forever hold special memories on our hunting property (that has been in our family for over 50 years) that we've shared with him.
He also was a union carpenter for over 55 years. He loved what he did for a job. He was the most determined man I’ve ever known. If something needed to be done, he was damn sure to figure out how to do it himself. It was a very frequent thing to have to tell him he wasn’t allowed to work on the roof anymore.
His great-granddaughter, Scarlett Mae Kazakos was "HIS GIRL". Since living with my parents this past year, we’ve been able to really bond with him, including participating on our weekly fish fry Fridays. His house was the house his family went to for every holiday, and they would spend 90% of their weekends at their grandparents, growing up with the family cousins. He really was the glue that keeps this side of the family together, and we are going to miss him more than words could ever express.
James is survived by his children, Connie (Rich) Sczafrin, Sabrina Pauly and Jim R. (Kelly) Mulvihill; his grandchildren, Shauna Pauly, Matthew (Kavitha) Pauly; Sara (Paul) Kazakos and Rebekkah (Tyler) Elliott; his great-granddaughter, Scarlett Mae Kazakos; his also survived by nieces; Kathleen O’Mahony, nephews; Anthony (Sheila) Prendergast, Jodi (Michelle) Dillon, Great Nephew; Patrick O’Mahoney.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Billie Jean (Prater) Mulvihill and his siblings; Shaun, Kathleen, and Philomena.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Willow Funeral Home 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
