Helen Ruth (Coleman) Stauffer was born in El Reno, OK to parents, Luther and Janie (Wroten) Coleman. As a young child she lived in Whittenburg, TX. At age 12, Helen and family moved to Medicine Lodge, KS, where she attended school and enjoyed being in many plays and the girls basketball team. After high School graduation in 1940, Helen attended business college in Wichita, KS. (1941-42).
On April 2, 1943, Helen married Herbert Dean Stauffer of Wichita, KS. He enlisted the Navy and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Waukegan, IL, San Diego, Ca and finally made their home in Wichita, KS. Helen and Herb had 2 sons in 1947, (Robert Dean – Jan. 3 and Richard Eric on November 10.)
Helen was active in the P.T.A. Newcomers Club and also worked for Avon, JC Penny and the Coleman Company. She was a secretary for the Coleman Company from 1960 until her retirement in 1990.
Grand Lake in OK was Helen and Herb’s favorite place to go camping and water ski on their summer vacations in the 60’s & 70’s.
Helen’s first Husband suddenly passed away in 1978. Her second marriage was to Bill Olson in 1990 on a Hawaiian vacation with dear friends, Kay and Herb Sheets also of Wichita, KS.
Helen moved to Huntley, (Del Webb) IL. in 2000 to live closer to son, Rick and Family. She lived in the Del Webb community for 15 years and the Valley Hi Nursing Center in Woodstock, IL until her passing.
Helen is survived by her 2 sons, Robert (Jonna), Richard (Judy) and Grandchildren, Carrie, Derek, Sarah, and Sabrina. 8 Grandchildren: Molly, Maggie, Lucy, Ava, Stella, Ari, Preston and Wilder.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM at The Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St., Algonquin, with Rev. Brian E. Cope officiating.
Helen's cremains will be buried at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
