George M. Hiles Obituary

George M. Hiles, age 82 of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in his home at the Clarendale of Algonquin. He was born on March 10, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Ross and Jean Hiles. George married Judith Hiles on March 8, 1969 in Cold Spring Harbor, NY.

George was the President of the Illinois Safety Council for many years. In his retirement, George found immense fulfillment in dedicating his time and energy to his family’s farm in Wilmington, Illinois. After years spent commuting into downtown Chicago, he found a deep and meaningful connection with the farmland that had connected so many families in the area. His involvement was more than a hobby, it was a way for him to honor his family and create a lasting legacy.

George had a lifelong passion for waterways and boats; a love that began in his early years and continued throughout his life. Whether it was the elegant craftsmanship of a wooden Chris Craft vessel or the broad and sturdy strength of barges gliding across the Chicago River, the water brought him true joy and contentment.

At the Clarendale of Algonquin, George was the unofficial Mayor of the Dining Room. His seat was positioned so that he could greet and share a kind word with everyone.

Surviving is his wife, Judith K. Hiles, his daughter and daughter-in-law, Anne (Mary Anderson) Hiles of Crystal Lake, IL; his second daughter and son-in-law, Wendy (Ken) Haney of Parrish, FL; his beloved grandson, Beau Hiles.

George’s visitation and "Celebration of Life" will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
