Carole Makaras passed away peacefully at the age of 80, on November 9, 2023, in Crossville, Tennessee. She was born on November 18, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert and Isabelle Carlson. Carole was a devoted wife of 54 years to Romanas "Ray" Makaras and a loving mother to her three children: Kathleen Mannes (David), Richard Makaras (Jamie), and Michael Makaras (Randi). She adored her four grandchildren: Amanda, Nicole, Andrew, and MJ. Carole was also a beloved sister to Allen Carlson (Marge).
Her educational journey led her to Elgin Community College, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting. Her dedication to her studies reflected her commitment to personal growth and knowledge.
For a large part of her life Carole endured painful physical limitations, but these circumstances were never able to stifle the light of her vibrant personality, nor impede upon the pursuit of her many interests. She was a talented artist with an eye for pottery, macrame, and cross stitch; she enjoyed playing cards and computer games, and her adventurous spirit was sparked by the magic of Harry Potter and Disney. In her younger years, she enjoyed winning auto rallies with her husband as navigator. Her adventurous attitudes stoked her fervor for travel, and she journeyed to many destinations. She had a special fondness in her heart for animals and was the loving owner to two cats (Whisper and Rambo) and one dog (Sammy.)
Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial visitation to celebrate Carole's life on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. along with a service that evening at 6:00 p.m. honoring Carole's memory all at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
Carole will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her persevering nature is an exceptional lesson to be passed down to all who had the fortune of knowing her. She was a warrior for her principles and her determination will shine in our memories. Her legacy of love, creativity, determination, and devotion to family will forever be cherished.
