Barbara June Ann Martin was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 7, 1942. She passed away under the care of St. Croix Hospice, Huntley, Illinois on May 5, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Evelyn Galas and younger brother Stephen James. Barbara is survived by her loving son, James Martin of Algonquin, grandsons James Peter and Jacob, brother Matt John (Dorothy) Galas of Hixson, Tennessee, sister Therese (Patrick) Anello of Parkland, Florida, brother Christopher Galas of Deerfield Beach, Florida, and brother in law Phil (Mary) Martin of Algonquin. Barbara loved life and was a wonderful educator in both grade schools and high schools. She lived in Algonquin with her late husband James Martin for over 45 years and was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church serving as Lector and Minister of Holy Communion. Barbara eventually oversaw the parish’s Thrift Store and enjoyed volunteering on a weekly basis. Towards her final days, Ministers of Holy Communion and her parish priests came to provide comfort and the Holy Sacraments. Barbara will also be remembered as Sister Marion, OSF. This was a very special time in her life and always held those memories in her heart. Her many religious sisters and friends, especially Camille Shaffer, were her prayer partners in the past few months and the family is grateful for their spiritual support and love shown to Barbara.
