Antonia Guadelupe Castaneda, 88, born January 31, 1934 in East Chicago, IN, passed away on October 17, 2022. Beloved mother of Rick Chandler (Nancy), Peter Moya, and Delores Downey, cherished grandmother and great grandmother to Payton, Chase, Nicky, McKenzie, Lydia, Anthony (Raschella), Antonio, John Moya (Kelly), John Jr., Nick, Lisa (Jay), Kristeria, Joseph, Shane, her sister Patricia Murray and brother Raul Pantoga along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Rebecca Hernandez and Antonio Vasquez, son Paul Moya and many of her siblings.
Toni or “Lu” lived in Chicago, Illinois for most of her life raising her children and working for the Dept. Veteran Affairs until her retirement. She was a devout Roman Catholic and faithfully attended service every week. Toni supported the Wounded Warriors Project, as many of her family members served in the Armed forces. She loved spending time with her family and close friends listening to old favorites like La Migra y Los Humildes and Freddy Fender. She enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, working crossword puzzles, anagrams, and watching TV crime shows like Perry Mason, Murder She Wrote, or Law and Order. Toni spent her last few months in the comforts of home with her family in Algonquin where she could enjoy the sounds of laughter, the aromatic smells of good food and feel the deep love that surrounded her.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for her family and friends on Saturday, November 19th, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Antigua Mexican Brunch & Grill, 2160 Lake Cook Rd., (at Rt. 62) Algonquin.
