Amanda “Mandy” Jolitz (Canty) age 65, passed away at JourneyCare in Barrington, on October 28, 2022 with her loving family at her side. She was born on January 15, 1957 to Roy Allen and Joanne Lee (Janak) Canty.
Mandy was a fifth generation Algonquin resident, meeting her future husband, Jeff, in the third grade. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree in Health Service Administration from the College of Saint Francis, graduating with Honors. She was employed as a pharmacist in a number of hospitals including Sherman Hospital and Elgin Mental Health where she served as Assistant Director of Pharmacy and for several years as Acting Director of Pharmacy before retirement.
Mandy had a true passion for cooking and loved entertaining family and friends especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas where she always made her famous Swedish glögg and hot fudge. She had a deep love of animals and held a special place in her heart for dogs. She loved nature, flowers, and watching the snow fall. She was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church of Algonquin and volunteered at a number of community events.
Mandy is survived by her husband, Jeffrey; sons, Benson (Amanda) Sanford of Clinton Township, MI, Brian (Kaitlyn) Sanford of Algonquin, IL, Charles Jolitz of Algonquin, IL and Seth Jolitz of Algonquin, IL; grandsons, Jack and Max; brother, David (Kathryn) Canty of New York, NY; sisters, Susan Hall of Jacksonville, IL and Erin Rednour of Algonquin, IL; father-in-law; Norman Jolitz of Algonquin, IL. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law A. Sue Jolitz.
A Memorial Visitation for Mandy will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 AM at The Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St., Algonquin, with Pastor Brian Cope officiating.
A Graveside Service for the burial of her urn will follow at Algonquin Cemetery. Family & friends will gather for a fellowship luncheon after the cemetery service back at the church.
