Alan W. Snyder, age 61, of Cary, Illinois passed away at home on January 9, 2025. He was born in Carbondale, Illinois on December 3, 1963, the son of William Snyder and Nancy (Dominick) Rothchild.
Alan graduated from Murphysboro High School in 1981. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Activity Therapy (1985) and a Master’s in Gerontology (1987) from Eastern Illinois University. He earned his second Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois Chicago in 1993. After college, Alan had a dedicated career at Elgin Mental Health Center for 30 years, retiring in 2017 as the Director of Vocational Rehabilitation. Alan’s strong work ethic led him to start and proudly run his own landscaping company for over 20 years. His quality of work spoke for itself which contributed to his impact on the community and his reputation as a selfless, hardworking man. More than anything Alan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He coached both Brett and Maddie in sports and was always their number one fan in any endeavor they pursued. His encouragement as a father influenced Brett to become a United States Marine and Maddie to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, following in Alan’s footsteps in the mental health field. These were just two of his proudest moments as their father. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Fighting Illini. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time traveling, especially to Hawaii, or anywhere with a beach. Alan will always be remembered as a kind, outgoing, genuine, and determined man.
Alan is survived by his wife, Jill (Beranek) Snyder; his children, Brett (Lisa) Snyder of Ft. Worth, TX and Madisen Snyder of Coralville, IA; his parents, William Snyder and Nancy Rothchild; his siblings, Melissa (Mike) Mersinger, Billy Snyder and Bridget (Zach) Privette. Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents and his sister, Denise.
Cremation rites were accorded privately.
A memorial visitation for Alan will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., (one half mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
