Robert E. Coen

Rob Coen passed away with family at his side on July 4, 2018, loosing a courageous battle to cancer. Rob was born September 30, 1955 in Waukegan, Illinois and later moved to Lake in the Hills, Illinois. He worked as a Real Estate agent, UPS and landed a job with the post office for 23 years. Rob was an adventurous man that led him to hiking and bicycling in Europe in 1982. He loved riding his motorcycle exploring ancestry, going to the Cub games with family & friends. Rob also started a small business of his own restoring old photographs. He and Shirley were so proud of their daughter when she graduated from veterinary school in May of 2018. He Married Shirley Kopniewski on April 4, 1992. She was his “Queen and Friend” and he was her “King”. He is survived by his wife Shirley Coen of Lake in the Hills, a daughter Dr. Caitlyn Coen of Madison, WI., his four legged friends “Frankie”, “Freddie”, ‘LaVern” and a rescue parrot “Bucky”, his mother Ruth A. Coen, sisters: Bev (Eddie) Akins, Cathy Coen, of Beach Park, IL and Betty Coen of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, nephews Jason Barnes (Nancy) of St. Petersburg, FL, Craig McFarland (Chrissie) of Gurnee, IL, Cliff McFarland (Rachel), of Winthrop Harbor, IL. ;2 great-nieces Kira Munn of Brandon, FL, and Addison McFarland of Winthrop Harbor, IL.; sister-in-law Joanie (Rich) Boland and many nephews & nieces whom Rob enjoyed being with all from Lake in the Hills, IL. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Donald E. Coen, his nephew, Nathan Barnes, his paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles and his best friend Alaskan Malamute  “Chinook”. Family & Friends will gather on Saturday, July 7, at 2:15 PM for a 2:30 PM Prayer Service at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd., Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
