Mark Steven Grab, age 71, of Crystal Lake passed away on November 20, 2019 at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Evanston, Illinois on October 27, 1948 to James Clifford and Nina (Burns) Grab - Beall.
He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War era, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960- ) and the Armed Force Expeditionary Medal (Korea) and was a proud member of the American Legion Post #0171
He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He and his brother, Bob, were part of the first pledging class of Sigma Pi.
He loved spending time with his family, playing board games, going on hikes, hitting the casino, smoking a good cigar, a great firework display and winning the biggest prize at the carnival games. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. The times he enjoyed most of all was being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Gillies) Grab; his children, Billie (David) Bosonetta and Adam Grab. He was the proud “Papa” to his grandchildren, Zoe, Trevor, and Ivy. Also survived by siblings Carol (Jeff) Schneider, Jim (Marcia) Grab and Bob (Maureen) Grab.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Timothy Grab.
A memorial visitation for Mark will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, (Lake in the Hills American Legion Post 1231 Honor Guard Salute will be conducted prior to the 7:00 PM Memorial Service) and a Time of Sharing to begin at 7:00 PM that evening at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 1415 W. Algonquin Rd. (one mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
Family & friends will meet at the (Public Information Center) on Friday, December 6, 2019 for an 11:00 AM procession and Committal Service with Full Military Honors under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, Illinois
