Linda Pollock Obituary

Linda D. Pollock (Trantham) age 71, passed away with peace and grace on the evening of December 29, 2019 at the AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village, surrounded by her loving family.

Linda is survived by her son, Gerald (Shera) Pollock of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Loy of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren Ava and Amelia Pollock, and Anne and Jacob Loy; brothers Jim Trantham of Pekin, Illinois, Larry (Diana) Trantham of Peoria, Illinois, and Dennis Trantham of Orlando, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. Linda is also survived by her former husband, Lorin Pollock of Fairmont, Minnesota.

Linda was predeceased by her father Preston Trantham, mother Eddie Mae Trantham (Burton), sister Joyce (Henry) Gosnell, and niece Diana Rowell (Gosnell). Linda was also predeceased by her dear friend, Lynn Wisniewski.

Linda was born in Monticello, Arkansas and with her family, moved to Pekin, Illinois where she grew up with her dear friends Vickie Seward (Boyer), and Penny Byrd. She often took her children, Jerry and Sherry, to Maurie’s bookstore in downtown Pekin where she instilled a life-long love for reading and an addiction to the smell and feel of a good book. Linda was also a talented artist, compelling family and friends to sit for charcoal portraits.

Linda worked at Jones Brothers Jewelers in Pekin, Frontier Auditorium in Peoria, and Centel Telephone Company. She relocated her family to Dixon, and then Des Plaines, as career opportunities at Centel presented themselves. She was a fiercely loyal friend to Gloria, Denise, Sandy, Joy, Betty, and Judy. Her children’s friends became her kids too - Jay, Donna, Shaun, and Wendy.

Linda loved a good story - from books written by Clive Cussler, Agatha Christie, and Nora Roberts, any movies that featured John Wayne, to Downton Abbey and Supernatural. Linda couldn’t help but dance to great music, especially anything that she could “twist” to. Linda also was an avid collector of all things giraffe-related - or more likely, was a joyful recipient of giraffe-themed gifts that she cherished because of the givers.

Most of all, Linda loved the story of her family. She cherished celebrating every birthday, concert, recital, graduation, play, and holiday with her children and grandchildren. Christmas, especially, was her favorite.
